"Never heard of that." But Poe seems to know a lot, so--maybe he's right.
He wraps up his breakfast and heads over with Poe to the rental place. The rental choices are definitely more civilian (there aren't even any weapons mounted) and flimsy-looking, but they should be fine for some in-atmosphere techniques. "All right, you're in charge now."
He ends up grabbing one of the flimsier looking skimmers, because it's the fastest one they have--also the newest. He gives it a thorough check first, though--flimsy looking or not, he's satisfied with its safety features. "This is gonna be great." Looks can be deceiving, after all. "Get in."
"It's a lot sturdier than it looks. It's just got a super light construction because that way we can go faster."
Speed is important, Finn.
Poe gets in and gets himself secured, then does the brief pre-flight check. He's a hotdog, but he doesn't short himself on safety. He lifts them off gently enough. The time for speed is when they get out over the ocean.
Poe would know, really, but he doesn't seem to relax until they lift off and it does not in fact fall apart under them. Once they're in the air, though, it's all Poe--and it's almost as fun to watch him doing what he loves as it is to be along for the ride.
Finn does well, even enjoying it once they're in the air and he knows Poe's not going to let anything happen to him. More than once he yells when Poe does a fancy move, but it's delight; he's having a great time.
"Hell yeah, that's the secret. That's what makes it natural." That's how his mom had flown, like the A-wing had just been an extension of her. And she'd taught it to him that way.
He rolls them for the fun of it, going into a long bank that provides a great view to Finn's side of the skimmer.
Natural. Like how the lightsaber had felt in his hand, he thinks suddenly, unsure why the comparison had come to him.
It's an entirely different experience to be on a joyride instead of as part of a mission or a flight for his life, and Finn finds he's eating it up. "Just look at that! I'm starting to see why you like this so much."
"Stick with me long enough, and I'll teach you to fly too. No feeling like it in the world." He reaches over to squeeze Finn's hand for a moment. "Kick the dirt off your boots, and all."
"No one's good at it when they start. That's what practice is for!" Well, he'd been pretty good, he thinks. But he'd also been six, so who knows if that's reliable, memory wise.
"I'd just worry about it the whole time. You're really alive up here."
It's one of the things he likes most about Poe, that vivacity. He's willing to take the kind of crazy chances that landed Finn here in the first place - he's had more experience with it, sure, and all pilots who want to do something besides run boring trade routes all have to have a little of that crazy, but calling Poe the best in the Resistance isn't bragging.
"You want to check out any of those islands a little closer?"
"I sure hope not, since I didn't bring mine." Poe grins. Though he did bring a towel.
He heads them toward one of the smaller islands, just a dot of white ooid sand in the middle of the sapphire blue ocean. There's just enough room to set the ship down vertically and have a strip of beach besides.
"Good enough for me." Towels are important. Not getting sand in places is also important; he'd grabbed a beach blanket.
The island looks perfect, and it takes someone like Poe to land the craft without breaking anything. Once it's settled, Finn jumps out and grins. That there are places like this they can just go to without asking any particular permissions or filling out reams of paperwork, and that probably won't even be observed by anybody? Amazing.
"Nah. Just spotted it on the scanner." Poe drops to the sand and pulls his shirt off over his head, pitching it back into the ship. "There's so many little islands out in this area, it's kind of crazy. Everyone gets their own private beach, practically."
Finn gets a little glassy-eyed when Poe ditches the shirt. Damn, but he looks good like that.
"Private. Right." He mutters it half to himself, shucking his own shirt. Without really meaning to, he backs Poe up against the side of the craft. "So, uh, you want to swim first?"
The kiss confirms that he's reading this right. Good. Finn kisses Poe again, deeper, keeping one hand on the skimmer and running the other one down that lovely chest.
"Depends. How flexible are you? I'm thinking it's been a long time since this morning."
It hasn't actually been that long, but why not seize the opportunity?
Hey, it doesn't take much to get him in the mood. The fact that Finn got him flying? Yeah, that's already got him keyed up in a way that can easily get nudged into sex. So he's very game. "Really long time," he agrees. "Guess if you want to know, you're just gonna have to put me through my paces and find out."

He'd like to believe that was the case, at least. The galaxy kept throwing them back together, so maybe that meant something.
"About done with breakfast?"
no subject
He gobbles the last few bites in a way that just screams career military and nods. "Yeah. You ready to go rent a skimmer and do some flying?"
no subject
"Hell yeah!" Flying, his favorite thing. He's ready to go, so ready.

He sends them speeding out over the waves, then really opens up the throttle. "Let's see what this thing can do."
Not the fastest thing he's ever flown, but he's happy about it.

"But I'll take you flying any time, anyway."

"Sure! You bring your swimsuit?" Poe didn't pack his, but they already know that's not necessary.
