Ever since Finn had left the First Order, he'd felt everything so intensely that it's almost scary to contemplate, and the desire he feels now is no exception. It could be because he's finally not afraid - the First Order is still out there, sure, and they'd love to get their hands on him, but they're biding their time and Spira's almost as far off their radar as the Outer Rim. Everything is at peace, however temporarily, and it's given him a chance to think about what he wants.
