Can't blame a guy at all. Not that Finn likes how physical Poe gets with him or anything. Not that Poe is the entire reason he even has this new life to begin with. Not that he's trying very, very hard not to think about what exactly was in Poe's underwear drawer besides underwear.

Definitely not.

"So, uh, let me know when you get your new orders? And if you think it'll help, I can put in a word with the General that you'd be all right with some downtime." Because, amazingly, the General actually values his opinion. He'd be loyal to her for that alone, even if she wasn't already a legend in her own right.

A whole lot of any kind of physical contact? Not at all. They were designed to be loyal to the First Order above all - even above their own squad. Leaving a friend behind would never happen, because there were no friends.

"You first," he says, though he starts to grin. "If you get the time off, I'll ask. No guarantees, though. I haven't been here long." Even though he's pretty sure he'd get it if he asked. He's still on light duty thanks to medical anyway.

It would be nice to go on leave with Poe, though. He knows how it all works.

"All right." His main problem is that he gets antsy if he's not helping somehow, not doing something. Even light duty is enough to keep him busy - and besides, to learn how to fit in he has to try. Luckily, learning how to go on leave properly counts as both doing something and fitting in.

He helps Poe down to the bed and gives him one last hand-squeeze. "You get some sleep, Poe. I'll see you when you wake up."

LATER....

[personal profile] forcesensitive 2016-01-16 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
But not too much later. In fact, the next day General Organa had laughingly approved Poe's request for leave and anticipated Finn's request. Turns out that getting leave in the Resistance is a lot easier than he'd thought; Jess had lent him a regulations manual he's still working his way through.

There's a shuttle headed to a nearby Republic trading hub departing in the evening, and from there they'll be able to head anywhere within a reasonable distance. Finn's guessing Poe will borrow a partner ship and take them somewhere, but they could always take a luxury liner. It's all good for him.

He's got his go-bag packed (not that there's much, but he hopes he can pick up a souvenir or two) and ready to go, and shows up promptly at the launch site fifteen minutes before pre-boarding.

"You know it." He sounds more confident than he looks; it is a little bit nerve-wracking to go out into the unknown world of normal life, but at least he's got a guide-slash-companion. Who's got a nice new jacket, he sees! Finn whistles appreciatively - it's a different design, but still looks good on him.

"New duds? I like them." His own jacket is better (obviously), but Poe's still looks pretty good.

Not shooting at him would be a great start, so Finn grins back. "You probably have a better idea where to go than I do, but if I think of anything I'll tell you. My only standard is no First Order." Obviously.

Finn is not, sadly, particularly paying attention to Poe's butt. He's paying attention to the whole look, and how it reminds him of when they'd first met. "You look fine, Poe."

"You bet." And he smiles even wider to see BB-8. "All right! You got leave, too?"

(Just so you know, I'm your chaperone and security detail,) BB-8 informs the two of them. Or, really just Poe, but how's Finn going to learn unless he's exposed to more droidspeak?

"Good to have you." So it'll be a ship at least with enough room for the three of them. He's curious what they'll end up in, not to mention where. "We ready to go, then?"

Finn just laughs, but it's kind of nice to hear the little droid be possessive of him. At least, he thinks that's what the security detail bit is about. "Well then, the least we can do is let you hang out with us till the ship's back in shape.

(You know! So someone can play lookout if Finn ever gets a clue.) Finn recognizes his name in the burbling and smiles, completely unaware of the context.

BB-8 follows the two of them into the shuttle, and Finn looks mildly surprised when he follows Poe's lead in. There are seats. He doesn't have tos tand for the whole trip. Awesome.

Basically? Yes. Everyone except Finn, who still hasn't reached a certain important part of the rules manual yet. He did only just get it, after all, and he figures he can get some reading in while Poe's doing more important things, like flying or sleeping.

Finn mimics him, stretching out his own legs as well. "So what's the plan once we get there? Pick up some rathtars from a shady-looking contact and make a run for it?"

What, it's what happened last time he got some downtime.
forcesensitive: (looks bad)

[personal profile] forcesensitive 2016-01-16 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Very differently. Very, very differently. And he really doesn't want to get kicked out for breaking a rule he didn't know about. He likes it here. He's still scared of the First Order--terrified, sometimes--but working to stop it is better than his first instinct of just running away. And...and if he stays, Rey will know where to find him when she's ready.

So he shakes his head vehemently. "One close encounter with them's more than enough for me. Did I tell you I almost got eaten?" And if Poe encourages him, he'll launch into the tale.

Finn snorts, grinning. Funny how something that terrifying to experience is much easier to relate than it is to live through, and he has BB-8 to back him up about how it happened.

"I've got good luck in my friends," he clarifies. "I couldn't get out of any of this by myself." He's used to working in a unit, after all - which means he's good at doing a few specific things, even if he does try to come up with a plan for every scenario. Those plans generally depend on having multiple people to carry them out.
forcesensitive: (okay sure)

Poe moreso than Finn, though he's no stranger to hyperspace. He doesn't get to drive nearly as often (read: never).

He cocks his head to one side. "Yeah? Then I am lucky. And so are you, mister hot shot pilot. You know everyone, it seems like." Or, at least, everyone on base seems to know Poe. It's not surprising, what with him being a squad leader and ace pilot all in one. And yet he wants to spend his leave with Finn. It's heartening to think.
